The Job Interview

The Job Interview - Your Opportunity to Seize or Your Downfall to Rejection

In your job search and on your way to getting your job interview you have already taken the first step and submitted a fantastic resume and all of the necessary supporting documents.

Already you are far ahead of the other job seekers and now you have finally scheduled an interview for your new career. What you do to prepare for the interview and how you perform during the process will ascertain your success or seal your fate in failure.

Your job interview will be the most nerve-racking and significant part of your job hunting process. Of course you will need to be at your best during this part of the process because the goal is to make this the completion of all your exhausting job hunting efforts. You have finally reached the point to where the employer will make their decision on hiring you for the job based on his or her impression of whether you are capable of performing the work. Of course they will also decide if you are the right person with the perfect fit for the position that is available. Drop the ball here and all your efforts from starting with the application to completing the interview will have been a total waste of effort other then a learning experience.

1. You Only Get One Chance To Make A First Impression, So It Better Be Great
For your job interview you should always dress in your best attire to make a lasting impression. It doesn't matter what the current company employees wear regardless of how casually they dress you should still wear a form of conservative business attire that is freshly cleaned and pressed.

2. Research The Company That Has Offered You A Job Before The Interview
To make a good and lasting impression on your job interviewer, one of the best & highly recommended methods is to do some research on the company and the position that you have applied for. By getting this information prior to the interview you will be prepared to answer several of the questions the interviewer may ask.

One of top questions that you will be asked is what asset or skills you have that will be a benefit to the company. It will be much easier to answer this question if you already know what the company actually does and some of the requirements for the available position. Showing how much you already know about the company's business and the position will make a great impression on the interviewer and should help you go to the top of the list.

3. Be Concious Of Your Body Language And What It Is Projecting
Most job interviewers are very well knowledgeable in what your body language projects and whether you are talking truthfully or if you are overstating your capabilities. Never tell lies and falsehoods or embellish your answers to try to make you look more knowledgeable or qualified. Experienced interviewers will detect in an instant that you are over-stating or glorifying your qualifications.

In most cases you will discover throughout the job interview that they will be making mental notes about your personality from the manner you act, talk, walk, and even minor body movements. Of course it is not recommended to try to control your body language to such an extent that it comes off as fake or unnatural during the interview. What is recommended is that your body language comes across in a manner that at least it transmits an openness and honesty to your personality.

It's usually best to avoid crossing your legs, putting your arms together, and to keep your palms open and not clenched. While speaking do not be afraid to make direct eye contact; just be careful to not stare to where you may come across as being highly intimidating.

4. Confidence Reflects Competence And Ability
The brighter your confidence shines through the better your chances are of being offered the job position. You should walk in with a purpose, talk with a purpose, and answer every question with a purpose without being too self-conscious. Even when you don't know the answer to a question make sure you handle the situation confidently and honestly answer the question by saying that you don't know but that you will definitely find out once you leave the interview. Potential employers will always look for the most competent people to fill their ranks and for people that answer questions honestly and showing their willingness to learn.

You should now fully understand what you can usually expect during the job interview process to the point that you can now go confidently into the interview to where you can expect to seize the great opportunity that you have been given.

Good luck and here's to your success!!!
